The Miles Circuit: Mama Nurse Tina’s Guide to Helping Baby Get Into Position
If you’ve ever heard someone mention the Miles Circuit and thought “is that a workout class or a baby dance routine?” — you’re not alone.
Lucky for you, today I’m walking you through why this little sequence of positions can be a total game-changer for labor.
What Is the Miles Circuit?
The Miles Circuit is basically a set of three movements designed to make more space in your pelvis, help your baby rotate into the best position for birth, and maybe even give labor that little nudge it needs. Think of it as “pelvic realignment meets baby shuffle.”
It’s especially helpful if:
You’re on the edge of labor (aka prodromal labor).
Labor has stalled out.
Baby’s hanging out sunny side up (OP) instead of in the optimal OA position.
Spoiler: this won’t magically flip the labor switch if your body’s not ready, but it can definitely help things along.
Step 1: Open Knee Chest
Grab a soft surface.
Hands and knees, chest down, bum up, knees wide.
Float baby out of the pelvis just enough to let them settle back in at a better angle.
Pro tip: Use a rebozo (or scarf) for support if it feels too intense.
Step 2: Exaggerated Side Lying
Get cozy with a mountain of pillows.
Lie on your side opposite of where baby’s back is (no idea? Start left, you’ll be fine).
Bottom leg straight, top leg way up and over your pillow stack.
Aim your belly button toward the bed so baby rotates with gravity’s help.
Step 3: Deep Lunge
Time to descend!
You can do curb walking, side lunges on furniture, or sideways stair walking.
Focus on keeping your belly forward while lunging to the side.
Do 15 minutes per side or switch every few contractions during labor.
Mama Nurse Tina’s tip: These moves shouldn’t hurt (other than contractions). Always check with your provider before trying anything new.
Bottom Line
The Miles Circuit isn’t a miracle cure, but it’s an amazing tool in your labor prep kit. Have you tried it? Did it help you?
